Lady Gaga: Simple and Sweet in i-D Hedonist Issue

Photo: Wolfgang Tillmans / i-D

Check out these snaps of the Lady Gaga looking unusually girly and toned down in i-D’s Hedonist Issue. With her grey-blonde hair in a simple, hella-retro up-do, softened by a slightly dishevelled texture, Our Lady wears a relatively dressed-down studded leather gilet against garden and museum backdrops. The shoot is relaxed; she poses chatting on the phone (te-telephone), smiling prettily and with a more melancholy expression. Photographer Wolfgang Tillman has truly captured a side to Mother Monster apart from those which the glam-slam couture shoots give her credit for, even if she is still sports her mental shoes and underwear-as-whole-goddamn-outfit-thanks. The soft lighting and faded colours are fabulous at capturing a retrospective, summer-afternoon-in-the-city feel, whole leaps and bounds away from the normative fantasy setting in which one thinks of Gaga. It’s like the simple girl underneath the latex. And we must say, the magazine cover featuring Beharti Prinsloo (one of 6 to choose from) shot by Matt Jones featured some seriously fierce skeleton make-up we can’t help feeling was inspired by a certain hobo-turned-male model who featured both in Gaga’s video and the Thiery Mugler show. Girl sets trends – even with this shoot, she ain’t just a pretty face! See below for all images……
