Christopher Kane’s Spring Summer 2011 collection sent everyone in to hysterics for the eclectic mix of style, fabric, inspiration and colour. Taking cue from unlikely style icon Princess Margaret, the Glasgow-born designer threw everyone’s head into a spin by presenting twin-sets and cute lace dresses in screaming neon shades. More like Princess Margaret on acid, many an editor was wont to mutter, knowing full well that mashing up unlikely components in a fashion collection is anything if not Kane’s signature. As well as the crazy colours, he used prints inspired by the Japanese tattoo form yakuza, more likely associated with Tokyo gangsters than British royalty. Whistles have hit the high street nail on its catwalk imitation head with this gorgeous dress in electric turquoise. The panelling at the shoulders and bustier shaping makes this a sugar sweet addition to any girl’s summer wardrobe.
