British Rain Chic

You’ve seen Emma Watson modelling them with her stern schoolgirl scowl; finally the Burberry trench dress has landed on the high street, kids. Check out Christopher Bailey’s sumptuous creation, all twists and ruches, from the Spring/Summer 2010 show, above, and see the great god Asos’s version below. This delicate and flouncy trench is the ultimate answer to the chilly “summer” garden parties where rain is always just a breeze away and, welcome or not, goosepimples accessory du jour. Well shiver no more, my pretties; as Bailey has long campaiged for, a short fitted trench makes a great party dress, waisted with a belt and atop mega-high heels. His were in dusty desert sand or pretty pastel shades, so this lilac version is a sugar sweet imitation, with Burberry-style ruching on both himline and shoulders, though at a snip of the price compared to the original. Also doubles as a fabulous coat.

  1. I love a nice trench coat, looks fabulous in the horrible British weather.
