Lara Stone: Gothic Princess

Frankly, it took me a long time to realise what the hell they were all on about, calling Lara Stone curvy, but apparently she is. I can kind of see it, and I love it, but she’s still by any stretch of the imagination waiflike. Still, her likeness to Bardot is striking and makes her a retro pinup of the modern fashion world, so curvy she must be. And she pulls off the gappy teeth ugly-as-beautiful thing wayyyyy better than that Georgia May Jagger, who looks demented. Stone here pouts and smizes for all she’s worth, showing how real models aren’t just any old rock royalty spawn but work for it with real skillz. Vogue Italia are always so damn inventive and more arty than the silly Anglo-American counterparts – here the fairytale princess comes with the tinge of Gothis horror, all bandaged heads and the shadow of the wolf on the wall. The play with lighting is really fabulous, and the clothes? Oh, my. Vogue Italia have done it again.
