Basso & Brooke S/S 2010

Basso and Brooke’s Spring Summer collection was a perfect balance of exploding colours from digital mastermind Basso, and controlled contours from couturier Brooke.  The collections’ forms slid from silky, subtle jumpsuits and fluid frocks to the haute definition of sharp tailored jackets and pants, but always keeping things sexy and fresh. But the prints were as breathtaking as ever; high spirited and bold, they kept the flavour fun and funky, with lightening bolts and jolts of colour, sometimes set against monochrome backdrops. It was almost as if the pair were trying to find a meeting point between the recent need for long lasting, powerful designs to make fashion that “lasts” in a climate where money is scarce, and the extravagant, extrovert school of design, hell-bent on distracting us from the tales of woe in our bank balance.
